Lisbon housing camp sets up 130 tents in Rossio Square

noticiasaominuto.com (Portuguese) —

Lisbon's housing protest camp counted 130 tents in Rossio Square on Saturday night, with around 300 people planning to sleep there, organizers said. The count was made during a delegates' meeting at 10 p.m., where organizers warned of arrest risk after 12:30 a.m. and scheduled another meeting for 11:30 p.m. Earlier, thousands marched from Marquês de Pombal to the square. The movement demands rent law reversal, an end to demolitions and evictions without housing alternatives, restrictions on real estate funds, more public housing, rent caps, and renovation of vacant properties. Protests began in Porto on October 10 and spread nationwide.
