Barcelona youth protest turns violent with barricades and fires
A youth protest in Barcelona turned violent on Saturday afternoon, with dozens of demonstrators clashing with police in the city center. The ongoing demonstration, inspired by European protests, has led to barricades and fires. Protesters erected a barricade on La Rambla using containers and municipal bicycles, setting them ablaze amid tense confrontations with police. Several shops closed their shutters with customers still inside, while the Mossos d'Esquadra deployed a large police operation. The protest, organized via social media and WhatsApp without an official leader, has no specific motive. Participants told EL PERIÓDICO they aim to emulate the mass mobilizations occurring across other European countries.
