Barcelona riot arrests reach 128, most of them minors

cope.es (Spanish) —

Catalan police have arrested 128 people following Saturday night riots in central Barcelona, with 72 detainees being minors, according to Sunday's updated Interior Department figures. Fourteen officers were injured, four seriously, and 23 shops were vandalized or looted. The arrests stem from a protest of about 500 young people gathered near Plaza Catalunya after a social media call for an "anti-system" demonstration. Authorities confiscated bladed weapons, sprays, balaclavas, and pyrotechnics, issuing 68 administrative citations. Mayor Jaume Collboni and Interior Minister Núria Parlon condemned the violence, promising strict judicial and financial consequences. Parlon cited a possible "mirror effect" with similar unrest in other European cities, especially France. The disturbances lasted from mid-afternoon until near midnight, when police regained control. Only two of the arrested minors had prior records for public disorder.
