Barcelona riots: 120 arrested, 15 police injured in Saturday unrest
More than 120 people were arrested and 15 police officers injured in Saturday's riots in Barcelona, according to the latest tally from the Catalan police force, the Mossos d'Esquadra. The unauthorized protest drew hundreds of young people, mostly dressed in black, to Plaça de Catalunya following a call circulated on TikTok, similar to unrest in other European cities, particularly France. Police reported 128 arrests, including 72 minors, and said 23 businesses were vandalized and 33 fires started. Chief Commissioner Silvia Catà described the violence as "gratuitous" with no specific demand behind it, noting the group was disorganized and inspired by incidents in France. A similar protest in Madrid saw lower turnout and less severe incidents.
