Barcelona protests: Around 100 arrested after youths riot in city center
Around 100 people were arrested in Barcelona after hundreds of young people gathered for protests, with many rioting, looting shops, and setting fire to garbage containers in the city center. The unrest began around 6 p.m. after youths followed a social media call for an unannounced demonstration, with about a quarter of those arrested being minors. More than 220 police officers were deployed to control the situation, and the protests' exact purpose remained unclear. Catalan President Salvador Illa condemned the violence, stating it has no place in the region, while Barcelona's mayor Jaume Collboni vowed consequences for the perpetrators. Similar violent protests occurred in French and Italian cities on Saturday, with demonstrators citing high living costs.
