France protests: 1,000 arrests as 70,000 police deployed nationwide
France saw a new day of protests against the cost of living, with Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez announcing around 1,000 arrests nationwide. Authorities deployed 70,000 police and gendarmes, with 65 arrests in Paris alone amid clashes. Hundreds of thousands of students, yellow vests, and unions marched in cities including Paris, Marseille, Lyon, and Nice. The government credited security measures with preventing attacks on public buildings after Limoges city hall was set ablaze on October 17. Organizers claimed nearly 800,000 protesters nationwide, while the Interior Ministry reported 410,000. Injuries were reported in Toulouse, Poitiers, and Clermont-Ferrand, and yellow vests have called for another mobilization on October 31.
