French Police Arrest 1,800 After Riots Hit Paris, Marseille, Lille, Lyon
French police have arrested over 1,800 people following violent riots in multiple cities, where masked protesters clashed with officers, set fires, and looted stores. The unrest erupted Saturday during demonstrations against high fuel prices, living costs, and education issues. Rioters in black clothing threw Molotov cocktails, burned vehicles and buildings, and ransacked shops in Paris, Marseille, Lille, and Lyon. Historic buildings, including Lyon's tourism office and Limoges' 140-year-old town hall, were severely damaged. Over 1,500 retail outlets were hit, while more than 500 police and firefighters were injured. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez blamed far-left extremists for infiltrating peaceful protests.
