US and China to open AI incident communication channel

The United States and China will establish a dedicated communication channel to address incidents caused by artificial intelligence, the White House announced Friday. The two countries agreed to create a bilateral channel for AI incidents and set up a "U.S.-China Dialogue on Super-intelligence" to exchange views on risks and benefits, according to a White House fact sheet. The agreement came during Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to Washington, which concluded Friday. The two AI rivals face growing scrutiny over technology risks after recent episodes raised concerns about losing control. Xi said both nations have a "responsibility to develop and manage AI for the common good," while Trump stated he wants to remain at the current regulatory stage. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had previously suggested a notification mechanism for national security-related incidents.
