US and China cut tariffs on $30B in goods, launch AI dialogue after Xi visit

The United States and China have agreed to reduce tariffs on $30 billion of goods in each direction and launch a dialogue on artificial intelligence, following President Xi Jinping's three-day visit to Washington that ended Friday. The tariff reductions cover US exports such as agricultural goods, wood, and cosmetics, as well as US imports including small appliances, toys, and decorations, according to a White House statement. The two sides also agreed to establish a trade council and extend outcomes from earlier talks in Kuala Lumpur. President Donald Trump said Saturday the US should not integrate AI initiatives with China, citing American dominance, though both leaders agreed to use the term "super intelligence" instead of "artificial intelligence." They also agreed on supporting each other's hosting of APEC and G20 meetings, and affirmed that Iran must not develop nuclear weapons.
