Xi urges US and Iran to resume nuclear talks

Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the US and Iran to return to the negotiating table to end their war during a closed-door meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, according to state-run news agency Xinhua. Xi said Beijing supports Washington and Tehran returning to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and hopes they resume negotiations soon, aiming for a comprehensive agreement including on the nuclear issue. He also stressed that China respects the sovereignty and security of all countries and has played a constructive role in easing tensions. During his first White House visit in over a decade, Xi laid down red lines on AI, Taiwan, and the Iran war, urging peaceful management of superpower rivalry and warning that AI development must remain under human control. Trump hailed their "truly great friendship" and discussed trade, security, and technology.
