US and China Launch AI Incident Communication Channel

Washington and Beijing announced Friday the launch of a communication channel to address artificial intelligence incidents, alongside a new bilateral dialogue on superintelligence, following President Xi Jinping's visit to the White House. The White House stated the two countries established a "U.S.-China dialogue on superintelligence" to exchange views on risks and benefits, and agreed to create a bilateral channel for handling AI-related incidents. The announcement comes amid growing criticism over AI risks after several incidents raised concerns about the technology escaping human control. Xi emphasized both nations share responsibility for developing AI under human oversight, while Trump expressed support for maintaining current regulatory levels. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had proposed the mutual notification mechanism last week, saying transparency between the world's top two AI powers is crucial.
