China and US reach tariff deal and AI dialogue pact in Washington

China and the United States reached an agreement to reduce trade tariffs and initiate dialogue on artificial intelligence, announced Beijing on Saturday following a meeting between Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump in Washington. The deal includes a $30 billion tariff agreement and forms part of an eight-point consensus from Xi's visit. Both nations also agreed to establish a commercial council and continue prior negotiations from Kuala Lumpur, extending a trade truce by two months. On AI, both sides will discuss risks and benefits, creating a communication channel for related incidents with talks planned for November. They also agreed to support each other's APEC and G20 leadership meetings and affirmed that Iran must not develop nuclear weapons.
