Xi and Trump pledge lasting partnership after Washington talks

The two leaders agreed to redefine their bilateral ties, with Trump calling the talks "very positive" and predicting "tremendous things." However, the tariff war truce was extended only until January, requiring renegotiation, while no public agreement emerged on AI safety measures. On Taiwan, Trump delayed approving a new arms package, calling it a "good bargaining chip." Xi had urged a "correct stance against Taiwan's independence." Both leaders may meet again at November's APEC summit in China and December's G20 in Florida.
