US and China to Create AI Incident Communication Channel

The United States and China will establish a communication channel to address incidents caused by artificial intelligence, the White House announced Friday following President Xi Jinping's state visit to Washington. The two nations agreed to create a "U.S.-China Dialogue on Super-intelligence" to exchange views on AI risks and benefits, plus a bilateral communication channel dedicated to incidents. The announcement follows recent episodes raising concerns that the technology could escape its creators. Chinese President Xi said both countries have a "responsibility to develop and manage AI for the common good." U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had proposed a notification mechanism, emphasizing the importance of moving "from opacity to more transparency" between the world's top two AI powers.
