Trump and Xi discuss Middle East war as Iran proposes seven-day plan

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the Middle East war on Sept 25, as Iran pressed Washington to accept a seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and halt regional fighting. Xi urged the US and Iran to return to a June framework agreement that led to a short-lived ceasefire, while Trump warned Xi against supporting Iran and received assurances China would not do so. Iran's foreign minister said the plan requires the US to lift its blockade on Iranian ports, release frozen funds, and waive oil sanctions. The war, which began Feb 28 with US and Israeli strikes, has disrupted oil flows and drawn in regional powers. Iran said it will show no flexibility over its nuclear programme, while Saudi allies Turkey and Pakistan met to discuss security amid Houthi attacks.
