US and China agree to strengthen dialogue on AI, trade, and military safety

Following their summit, the US and China announced a strengthened bilateral dialogue, including a signed memorandum of understanding to improve crisis communication and prevent military incidents. The White House also stated the new Board of Trade has begun its work this week. The two sides will use the trade board to cooperate on specific commercial issues. They reaffirmed their commitment to reducing mutual tariffs on roughly $30 billion worth of goods and agreed to suspend additional tariffs for two more months. China also pledged to import at least ten million tons of US coal annually in 2027 and 2028. A dedicated communication channel will be established to discuss AI-related incidents, with a meeting planned for November. This comes amid warnings from US AI executives about potential dangers, which Trump has dismissed. China also previously restricted rare earth exports, with both sides now working to address US supply concerns.
