US and China open AI communication channel after summit

The United States and China announced the creation of a "communication channel" to address incidents caused by artificial intelligence, following a state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the White House that featured pomp but yielded few concrete results. President Donald Trump and Xi discussed topics ranging from AI and trade to the stalled war in Iran, and confirmed they would meet a third and fourth time this year at international summits in China and the U.S. The two countries agreed to establish a "U.S.-China Dialogue on Super-Intelligence" to exchange views on AI risks and benefits, with the next exchange scheduled by November. The visit also produced agreements on Chinese imports of at least 10 million tons of U.S. coal in 2027-2028 and more favorable customs treatment on $30 billion of goods.
