Kyiv sewage system safe from shelling as water use drops, says city official

rbc.ua (Russian) —

Kyiv's sewage system will not stop due to shelling, as reduced water supply drops wastewater volumes to a critical minimum, eliminating strain on the network, according to Kyiv City State Administration official Petro Panteleev. Panteleev explained that water supply and drainage form a single system requiring constant backup power. The first stage of installing 16 MW generators targeted critical facilities, including the drainage system, to ensure its operation. He noted that public space contains much misinformation about utility networks, and authorities hold meetings to clarify the situation. Kyiv also expects 10 additional generators from the Cabinet of Ministers for the water utility, while full heating connection for homes will take about 10 days.
