Canada sets tariffs on US goods starting September 8

Canada announced retaliatory tariffs on approximately $20 billion worth of annual US imports, with rates of 15%, 25%, and 50% set to take effect September 8. The tariffs will apply to roughly 700 US product categories. A 50% rate targets steel, aluminum, furniture, and clothing; 25% applies to cheese, appliances, and some seafood; 15% covers electronics and tools. The measures respond to new US trade fees and follow failed negotiations. Canada also announced support for affected businesses and workers. The White House has not yet commented.
