Canada’s tariff list: hockey sticks, booze, perfume and more

President Donald Trump's new 50 percent tariffs on approximately $20 billion of Canadian goods took effect Saturday after last-minute negotiations failed, escalating the trade dispute. Canada will impose matching retaliatory duties on American products starting September 8. The tariffs cover a wide range of imports, including building materials, clothing, perfumes, honey, wine, hockey sticks, and cameras. American importers face higher costs, which studies suggest will largely be passed to U.S. consumers, with 60 percent of Americans opposing the increases. Canada is one of America's largest trading partners, sending 72 percent of its exports to the U.S. last year. Trump separately announced tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts, and steel will rise to 50 percent on January 1, 2027.
