Poilievre urges Carney to recall Parliament over rejected U.S. trade deal

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has asked Prime Minister Mark Carney to recall Parliament to disclose details of the rejected U.S. trade deal and explain its economic impact on Canadians. In a letter Sunday, Poilievre demanded the deal's text be released so Canadians can judge their options, citing concerns over rising prices and threats to steel, aluminum, lumber, and auto jobs. He also accused Carney of misleading the public on the Gordie Howe Bridge agreement. Carney suspended trade talks Friday, citing U.S. restrictions on Canadian trade deals, and promised retaliatory tariffs after new U.S. tariffs took effect Saturday. Other opposition parties backed government briefings for MPs but stopped short of demanding public release.
