Canada to impose retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods starting September 8

Canada will impose retaliatory tariffs of 15%, 25%, and 50% on selected U.S. goods starting September 8, according to its finance ministry. The measures target nearly $20 billion in U.S. products, including machinery, motorcycles, appliances, agricultural equipment, and paper. Tariffs on steel and aluminum rise from 25% to 50%. Canada also announced a $5.4 billion support package for affected workers and businesses. The move follows U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods, with Prime Minister Mark Carney promising a symmetric response.
