Canada unveils $7.5B response to US tariffs, counter-tariffs set for September

Canada's government announced a 7.5 billion Canadian dollar response package to US trade tariffs, with Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne stating the nation stands united to defend its interests. Champagne said the US tariffs effective August 22 will significantly impact Canada's economy, calling Washington's demands unfair and unacceptable after tireless efforts to reach an agreement. Starting September 8, Canada will impose counter-tariffs of 15, 25, and 50 percent on up to 27.6 billion Canadian dollars in US imports.
