Canada hits back with 50% tariffs on US imports

Canada has retaliated against US tariffs with its own duties of up to 50% on American imports, set to take effect September 8. The counter-tariffs cover roughly 700 US products, totaling 27.6 billion Canadian dollars (19.94 billion USD). They follow collapsed trade negotiations, with 50% duties on steel, aluminum, furniture, and clothing; 25% on cheese, appliances, and seafood; and 15% on electronics and tools. Canada also announced a 7.5 billion Canadian dollar support package for businesses and workers affected by the escalating trade conflict.
