Canada to announce retaliatory tariffs on U.S. Tuesday

Canada will announce retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. on Tuesday, multiple sources told CTV News. The measures follow the collapse of trade talks and U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne and three other ministers will detail the measures Tuesday morning at a local business. The announcement may include expanded Employment Insurance for workers impacted by the tariffs, and premiers are expected to be briefed on a call. Prime Minister Mark Carney previously promised dollar-for-dollar retaliation after Labour Day. The U.S. has imposed 50 per cent tariffs on certain Canadian goods and threatened to raise auto tariffs to 50 per cent in January.
