Brazil votes in razor-thin runoff between Bolsonaro and Lula
Brazil votes today between Flávio Bolsonaro's return of the Bolsonaro family to power and a fourth term for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in what polls show as a razor-thin runoff. Over 158 million voters are eligible to decide the country's 40th president. Saturday's Quaest and Datafolha polls give Senator Flávio Bolsonaro 51% of valid votes against 49% for Lula, following a first round where Bolsonaro led 47% to 45%. The election could surpass 2022's record margin, when Lula beat Jair Bolsonaro by just 2.1 million votes. Flávio has promised a pardon for his father, under house arrest for coup attempt conviction. Lula, 80, seeks a fourth term, which would make him Brazil's second-longest-serving president. Voting runs from 8am to 5pm Brasília time, with six states also electing governors.
