Brazil vote count resumes with Lula leading Bolsonaro in presidential runoff

elnuevodia.com (Spanish) —

Brazil's last polling stations closed Sunday at 7 p.m. local time, ending a two-hour extension ordered by the Supreme Court, and vote counting resumed in the presidential runoff election. With 1.50% of votes tallied, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva led with 52.27% against 47.73% for Jair Bolsonaro. The extension followed a Workers' Party complaint citing irregularities and lack of public transport in opposition-governed municipalities. Justice Cristiano Zanin, Lula's former personal lawyer, issued the ruling, but it applied only to stations still receiving voters. Many had already closed at the original 5 p.m. deadline and transmitted their results.
