The commercial, which critics say contrasts sexuality with female athletes' effort and talent, drew outrage from figures like five-time Olympic swimmer Ariarne Titmus, who wrote she was "furious" and questioned why monetizing women's bodies remains accepted. Boxer Skye Nicolson clarified the backlash targets the mockery of women in sport, not their physical appearance. In response, athletes including gymnast Gracie Kramer and swimmer Lani Pallister posted training and medal videos on Instagram. Sweeney, who is also a strategic partner and shareholder in Novig, had earlier described skiing as an intense full-body workout she loves.
