Female athletes hit back at Sydney Sweeney's nude gambling ad: 'This is what women in sport look like'
A sports gambling advertisement featuring actress Sydney Sweeney has sparked backlash from female athletes who say it sexualizes women in sports. The campaign for the prediction market Novig shows Sweeney nude, covered only by sports equipment. British sprinter Amy Hunt criticized the ad during a BBC interview, sharing her own athletic achievements and saying "this is what women in sport look like." Olympic swimmers Ariarne Titmus and Lani Pallister, along with other athletes, joined the criticism on social media, with Titmus calling it a "kick in the face." Novig launched its market in August after federal approval, and Sweeney is an equity partner who helped craft the campaign's message. The company plans further ads with Sweeney, while the actress has not directly addressed the criticism.
