Amy Hunt: Sydney Sweeney ad creates 'barrier' for girls in sport
British sprinter Amy Hunt has voiced concern that a controversial sports betting advert featuring actress Sydney Sweeney could create a "barrier" to girls' participation in sport. Hunt made the remarks after running a season's best 22.10 seconds in the 200m final in Budapest on Sunday. The advert shows Sweeney naked but partially covered by sporting equipment, drawing criticism from several female athletes. Hunt, 24, stressed the importance of showing young women that sport is about what the body can do, not how it looks, citing statistics that 64% of girls drop out of exercise before age 16. Hunt, who won four gold medals at the European Championships last month, said "sport is not pretty" and described being sick during sessions or in tears when things go wrong. She noted the positive reaction from women in sport has outweighed the advert's controversy.
