Amy Hunt: Sydney Sweeney ad creates barrier for girls in sport
British sprinter Amy Hunt has expressed concern that a controversial sports betting advert featuring actress Sydney Sweeney could create a "barrier" to girls' participation in sport. The advert shows Sweeney naked while covering parts of her body with sporting equipment. Hunt, 24, spoke after running a season's best 22.10 seconds in the 200m final at the Ultimate Championship in Budapest on Sunday, saying "This is what women in sport look like." She noted that 64% of young girls drop out of exercise and sport before age 16, arguing the advert's messaging undermines efforts to empower young women to participate regardless of appearance. Hunt, who won four gold medals at the European Championships in Birmingham last month, said "sport is not pretty" and described being sick during sessions or in tears when things go wrong. She added that the positive reaction from female athletes has outweighed the advert's controversy.
