Anthropic IPO tests investor patience for AI growth stories
Anthropic's planned initial public offering will test investor patience for AI growth stories, according to Stephen Callahan, trading behavior analyst at Firstrade, in comments to Investing.com. The filing marks a pivotal moment for the AI sector, forcing investors to decide where to allocate capital next. Nearly half of Anthropic's first-half revenue came through AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure marketplaces, according to its S-1 filing, prompting investors to watch what the IPO signals about hyperscalers. The company reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026 against a net loss of $80.7 billion. Callahan warned that mega-IPOs create strong fear of missing out among retail investors, who often chase the opening, typically the most volatile period, buying on emotion rather than following a plan. He added that first-day trading could see extra volatility since insiders may trade from day one.
