Anthropic Files for IPO Despite $80.7 Billion Loss
Anthropic, the AI company behind chatbot Claude, has filed for an initial public offering on the Nasdaq, potentially within the next month, despite reporting a net loss of $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026. The company generated $16.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026, up from $4.6 billion for all of 2025, but spends heavily on computing power, including $3.1 billion monthly on SpaceX servers. Its prospectus warns that AI systems could exhibit "self-preserving behavior" and pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity" without proper oversight. Founders Dario and Daniela Amodei will retain 50.1 percent voting control through special Class F shares. The IPO, under ticker 'ANT', is expected to rival or exceed SpaceX's record $86.2 billion debut, with Anthropic valued at $1.5 to $2 trillion.
