Anthropic files for IPO, warns of existential AI risks in prospectus
Anthropic filed for an initial public offering, warning in its prospectus that advanced AI systems could pose catastrophic or existential risks to humanity while reporting massive financial losses. The AI company behind the Claude chatbot reported a net loss of $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026, though revenue grew 1300 percent year-on-year to $16.3 billion. The filing dedicates 93 pages to risk factors, including bioweapons misuse, loss of human control, and authoritarian abuse. Anthropic plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker "ANT" as early as November 16, potentially raising up to $100 billion. CEO Dario Amodei has called for a global slowdown in AI development, and the company's valuation has reached $1.5 trillion.
