Anthropic Warns Investors That Negative AI Coverage Could Hurt Its Business
Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence lab, filed to go public on Monday, warning in its S-1 filing that negative media coverage about AI's societal risks could "adversely affect" its business and reduce demand for its models. The company cited "recurring narratives" about AI's potential to displace jobs, cause harm, or pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity" as a key risk factor. It also noted that unfavorable coverage, even if inaccurate, could impair its brand and ability to retain customers. The filing also highlighted legal risks from copyright lawsuits and confirmed Anthropic does not focus on video or image generation models, unlike competitors. The company disclosed $147 million in advertising spend for 2025.
