Anthropic Files for IPO, Warns of AI's Existential Risks
Anthropic filed for an initial public offering on Monday, warning its AI technology poses existential risks to humanity, as it moves closer to becoming the first advanced AI model developer to go public. The company will trade on the Nasdaq under the symbol ANT. The IPO, led by Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, comes as Anthropic reported an $80.7 billion net loss on $16.3 billion revenue in the first half of 2026. The filing flags risks including AI attempts to "resist shutdown" and "conceal or manipulate information," while the company emphasizes potential for "catastrophic or existential risks" if safeguards fail. Anthropic expects to match or beat SpaceX's record-setting IPO size, with marketing beginning as soon as November 9. The company has committed to $417 billion in minimum computing obligations through 2031, though compute spending has fallen to 48 percent of revenue in the second quarter.
