Anthropic files for IPO with possible $2 trillion valuation
Anthropic filed papers Monday for an initial public offering next month, potentially becoming the largest IPO ever with a reported valuation up to $2 trillion, surpassing SpaceX's record $86 billion raise in June. The AI lab behind the Claude chatbot reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of the year, about 14 times last year's figure, but also $80.7 billion in net losses, including a one-time $72.4 billion accounting charge. The company holds $131.7 billion in cash. Anthropic's 335-page prospectus lists 93 pages of risk factors, including warnings that advanced AI could pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity." Co-founders will retain 50.1% voting power, while competitors like OpenAI plan to wait until next year.
