Anthropic files for IPO, potentially largest ever
Anthropic filed for an initial public offering Monday, potentially the largest in history, with a Wall Street debut expected next month that could surpass SpaceX's record $86 billion IPO. The San Francisco AI company behind the chatbot Claude reported a net loss of $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026, though revenue is growing rapidly. Its valuation could reach $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion, and the offering may raise up to $100 billion, according to reports. CEO Dario Amodei recently urged slowing advanced AI development, and the filing warns the technology could pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity" if misused. The IPO would precede rival OpenAI's debut and could make Amodei and co-founder Daniela billionaires.
