Anthropic president questions OpenAI's Pentagon deal motives
Anthropic President Daniela Amodei questioned whether OpenAI’s Pentagon deal was a “principled stand” or an “opportunistic moment,” escalating rivalry between the two AI giants. Her comments came as Anthropic filed for an IPO on Monday. Anthropic, which refused to relax military AI restrictions, reported over $16 billion in revenue and an $80.7 million net loss in the first half of 2026. Its prospectus flagged litigation with the Trump administration as a business risk, while OpenAI later agreed to permit broad lawful military uses. The feud traces to 2021 when Dario and Daniela Amodei left OpenAI to found Anthropic. Dario previously called OpenAI’s military deal “straight up lies” in a leaked message, and he warned that autonomous weapons could fundamentally undermine democracy.
