Anthropic Files for IPO, Targeting Up to $2 Trillion Valuation
Anthropic has officially begun the countdown to a potentially record-breaking initial public offering, releasing its IPO filing documents on the morning of October 26. The AI developer behind the chatbot Claude is expected to go public on Nasdaq under the ticker "ANT" in the week before Thanksgiving, with a target valuation reportedly between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion. The roughly 400-page prospectus reveals both immense ambition and stark warnings, highlighting AI's potential to transform programming, research, and disease treatment while also cautioning that it could lead to new bioweapons and destabilize geopolitical order. The company reported revenue of $16.3 billion for the six months ending June 30, a 1,300% year-over-year increase, alongside a net loss of $80.7 billion largely due to accounting adjustments, though its operating loss narrowed to $693 million. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have secured the lead underwriter roles among more than 20 financial institutions involved. Investors will scrutinize the documents ahead of the roadshow in about two weeks, where Anthropic aims to pitch roughly $100 billion in shares, with the company's tightly controlled organizational structure also detailed for the first time.
