SpaceX secures $40 billion debt deal for AI chips, Musk says

cnbc.com —

SpaceX has closed $40 billion in debt financing to purchase GPUs for artificial intelligence systems, Elon Musk announced Sunday on X. The financing, primarily consisting of callable debt for graphics processing units, is expected to arrive in the first and second quarters of 2027. Bloomberg reported SpaceX was in talks to raise the funds for Nvidia chips, with Goldman Sachs leading discussions with investors including Apollo Global Management. The deal uses a special purpose vehicle to keep debt off SpaceX's balance sheet and preserve its investment-grade credit ratings. SpaceX's AI segment, called "Super Intelligence," has become its largest business unit, with third-quarter revenue surging ninefold to $7.56 billion.
