Anthropic's CFO faces a defining test as IPO approaches
Anthropic filed its S-1 with the SEC on Monday for a Nasdaq listing under ticker ANT, reporting $16.29 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026 but a net loss of $80.75 billion, largely from a $72.39 billion accounting charge. CFO Krishna Rao faces the challenge of sustaining rapid growth while managing $8.95 billion in compute expenses, up from $2.33 billion a year earlier. The company currently earns over two dollars per dollar spent on infrastructure, though it warns price cuts could alter this. Anthropic, founded in 2021 and led by CEO Dario Amodei, raised $65 billion in May at a $965 billion valuation. Analysts highlight compute constraints and governance risks, while investors focus on growth trajectory into 2027 and 2028.
