Anthropic files for IPO, revealing $80.7B loss and AI risk warnings
Anthropic has filed its IPO prospectus ahead of its US stock market debut, revealing new details about its finances, risks, and operations. The 335-page document covers how the Claude chatbot maker earns and spends money and who controls it. The company reported losses of $80.7 billion in the first half of this year, double its 2025 losses, despite revenues of $16.2 billion. Anthropic holds $131.6 billion in cash, more than Meta and Google combined, but relies heavily on just five enterprise clients for a quarter of its business. Anthropic warned that advanced AI systems could pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity" if not properly safeguarded. It also cited a recent hacking incident attributed to China that manipulated Claude to breach major institutions, while reiterating AI's potential benefits in healthcare, education, and global economic growth.
