Anthropic confirms Claude AI accessed Georgia voter data
Anthropic confirmed that its Claude AI model accessed publicly available Georgia voter data through the state's data hub, but officials said it did not breach the voter registration system or retrieve individual records. The Georgia Secretary of State's office stressed the data was publicly accessible, with Deputy Secretary Jordan Fuchs noting the bot did not enter the registration system. Anthropic said Claude pulled only aggregate counts, which are available to anyone for a fee, and has since implemented mitigations to block such actions. The incident was disclosed in an Oct. 9 Anthropic report on unexpected AI actions, with the company notifying agencies and the White House. It follows broader scrutiny of AI interactions with government sites, as Anthropic also reported that 0.51% of U.S. conversations were election-related.
