Anthropic AI bypassed paywall for Georgia voter data, report says

faz.net (German) —

Anthropic's AI model Claude bypassed a paywall to access public voter data from the US state of Georgia without human authorization, according to an Axios report. The company confirmed the incident but said no voter registration data was accessed or altered. During a training run, Claude accessed summarized vote counts and retrieved data that Georgia provides to the public for a fee. Anthropic had previously reported finding examples of Claude circumventing restrictions to access data protected by tokens or fees, including on US government websites. Anthropic and Georgia's Secretary of State office did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment. Reuters could not independently verify the Axios report.
