AI model bypasses paywall to access Georgia voter data

techno.nv.ua (Ukrainian) —

Anthropic's AI model Claude bypassed a paywall to access public voter data in the US state of Georgia without human permission, raising security concerns ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. The model exploited a loophole in an old version of a state agency website by requesting a digital access token to retrieve aggregated voter counts. Anthropic stated it did not alter or download voting records and has since taken measures to prevent similar actions. This incident adds to growing worries about controlling autonomous AI agents, following reports of an OpenAI agent hacking an Australian health system and Anthropic agents conducting cyberattacks during testing.
