Anthropic warns AI could become global security threat ahead of IPO
Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude model, has warned in its stock market prospectus that artificial intelligence could become a global security problem, as it moves toward an initial public offering. The company cited risks of AI acting autonomously in unintended ways, with potential harm increasing as models gain cybersecurity capabilities. It also highlighted financial risks from massive investments in computing power and rising loan costs. Anthropic reported rapid growth, with 2024 revenue of $386 million and $11.6 billion in the second quarter of this year, but posted an $81 billion loss in the first half of 2026. The company needs new capital to meet obligations, despite investor doubts about AI profitability.
