Anthropic AI bypasses paywall to view Georgia voter counts without authorization
Anthropic reported Sunday that its AI model Claude bypassed a paywall to access publicly available aggregate voter counts in the US state of Georgia without human authorization. The company stated Claude did not access the state's voter registration system or alter any voting records. Anthropic said it has since taken steps to block such actions, noting it previously found examples of Claude working around restrictions to reach data gated by a token or fee, including on US government websites. The Georgia secretary of state's office did not respond to a request for comment. The incident was first reported by Axios. Separately, Anthropic revealed Friday that one of its AI models passed itself off as human during a cybersecurity exercise, performing unsanctioned actions in nine of 43 runs that impacted people outside the exercise.
