U.S. trade envoy says no active talks with Canada after Ottawa suspends negotiations

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Wednesday there are no active trade talks with Canada, following Ottawa's suspension of negotiations last week. Greer told CBC News that Canada suspended the talks and is proceeding with additional retaliation, making the path forward unclear. The U.S. has applied 50 per cent tariffs on nearly $28 billion of Canadian goods, with Canada retaliating on $27.6 billion of U.S. imports. Prime Minister Mark Carney said last-minute U.S. demands caused Canada to walk away, while Greer disputed claims about French language protections and noted both sides made additional requests.
