Canada's Saskatchewan hits U.S. alcohol with 50% tariff

A Canadian provincial government has imposed a 50% tariff on American alcoholic beverages, escalating trade tensions with the United States. The measure takes effect September 8. Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe announced the tariff on U.S. wine, beer, and spirits, joining Canada's federal retaliation against recent American tariffs. He stated the province must protect itself, while emphasizing the U.S. remains its largest trading partner. Saskatchewan and Alberta are the only provinces still selling U.S. alcohol, as others have removed it from shelves, drawing complaints from President Trump. Saskatchewan's U.S. liquor sales have already dropped 40%.
